What’s your definition of style?

Ive not yet been able to define it, and I don’t think I really can. Greater thinkers than I have attempted. Virginia Woolf said that “Vain trifles as they seem, clothes have, they say, more important offices than to merely keep us warm. They change our view of the world and the world’s view of us.”

I think she is quite close. Style is more than a creative expression of ones artfulness. As with any art, its transformative.

You inspire and empower many women with your own style, who are your fashion icons and inspirations?

I’m interested in style that is otherworldly and from another time. I love how the bohemian Talitha Getty lived in her times and her clothes. I love the idea of what Queen Boudica wore, I love to think about that concept. Modern style goddesses include Catherine Baba and Estelle !!

Why did you select this Micky In The Van outfit?

Actually, it was the last one on the rack on the day! I would have been thrilled to wear anything from Micky In The Van though. This outfit is perfect in my opinion because I love exaggerated proportions and playful voluminousness.

What are three key items of clothing/accessories/footwear that you believe are must haves?

I love winter dressing, so I’d say coats like cocoons in emotional colours, leather gloves that extend past the elbows and beautiful underwear.

What would be one essential piece of fashion advice that you’d like to pass on to the sisterhood?

If the sistas in your hood are making some great threads, then buy them, commission great things by those sistas and wear them with pride!

What is a mantra/quote that you follow that has helped you with your success?

I’m influenced by so many references. But how immense is this quote I found this morning? It perfectly encapsulates the utter epicness of doing your own thing at all costs:

“Let us each take up our flaming torches and mount as the blazing fireballs of light that we are and let’s burn the skies and leave it with deep scars and let them be our signatures upon eternity as we go forth!” ― C. JoyBell C.
