What’s your definition of style?
To me style is having the courage to listen to your inner voice – the one that says ‘fabulous, I’ll really enjoy wearing that!’, ‘love the idea but not for me’ and ‘good heavens no’. It’s easy to get distracted by the endless stream of fashion media we’re exposed to every day, but staying true to that voice is what builds great personal style.

You inspire and empower many women with your own style, who are your fashion icons and inspirations?
I admire people who aren’t afraid to own their look, whether that’s having a signature style they rarely deviate from or a consistently evolving stream of inspiration. My friends Emma Bergmeier-Varian (@dropstitch) and Monica Morales (@monicacamorales) both inspire me with fabulous, colourful styles that are entirely their own, my Aunt Barbara is always chic in a capsule wardrobe of black, white & navy in beautiful fabrics, the late, great Isabella Blow was completely fabulous, I love everyone on Ari Cohen’s blog Advanced Style, Natalie Joos (@jxxsy) is a perfect chameleon who can rock Valentino one day/vintage the next, Michelle Haswell (@michellehaswell) from Kingdom of Style does amazing layering with a graphic edge, Nadia Bailey (@animalorchestra) makes me wish I was summer goth and Susie Lau (@susiebubble) from Style Bubble is my fashion hero in sneakers. Phew, that’s a long list! I like people watching.

Why did you select this Micky In The Van outfit?
I chose this outfit as it display elements I always look for in clothes – quality in design, comfort and versatility. I’m pretty strict with my wardrobe and ask a lot of the pieces in it, so anything that can take me from breakfast to bar (without getting crumpled throughout the day) is a winner! Stripes and black are a classic combo, one of my favourites, as it gives you the freedom to play with form and silhouette. I love how the soft drape of the top contrasts with the structured trousers.

What are three key items of clothing/accessories/footwear that you believe are must haves?
I’m a huge fan of striped tshirts, black ankle boots and bold sunglasses. Then all you need is a pair of jeans, a great skirt and a dress for layering and you’ve got a capsule wardrobe! (Though saying that, I’m the sort of person who’d rather be overdressed at lunch and underdressed at a ball so am pretty good at making tshirts work for all occasions!)

What would be one essential piece of fashion advice that you’d like to pass on to the sisterhood?
I’m a firm believer in Dame Westwood’s mantra buy less/choose well. Do your research, know what suits you, make some effort to learn about fabrics and construction, shop local, support the makers and you’ll never have the problem of a wardrobe full but nothing to wear!

What is a mantra/quote that you follow that has helped you with your success?
If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing properly.
